A wild fish that is more deadly than the piranha has been caught in the UK for the first time sparks fears of a deadly invasion.

The 2ft long snakehead fish was caught by fishermen Andy Alder on the River Witham in Lincolnshire.

The fish, Southeast Asia, has a mouth stuffed with vicious teeth, can apparently “explore” on the ground and can survive for up to four days out of water. It is already known to be a deadly predator in other parts of the world. The races are known to attack humans when protecting their young.

It is feared that the fish may have been smuggled into Britain illegally and released. Snakeheads have already caused chaos in the United States when they were discovered in 2002.

Snakeheads adults can reach 3 feet and weigh up to 44lb.
